Chapter 6

Also, like Seven, she had been groomed into her parents’ occupational field since as early as she could remember. She chose physical therapy as her specialty because she enjoyed the personal aspect of working one-on-one with a patient and she felt a sense of pride in her abilities as she watched her patients go from wheelchairs to walking or bedridden to self-supporting. Tiffany Taylor was a true believer in a person’s ability to overcome tragedy.

Any chance of Seven Andrews not falling in love with his new therapist went out the window with their first physical contact. Tiffany explained the workings and functionality of his new artificial limb as she gently attached it to his stump. The normally painful and uncomfortable process went unacknowledged by Seven, who found himself examining the young lady’s exposed neckline as she stooped to attach the leg. A single, thin gold chain dangled from her neck. At the end of the chain and perfectly centered between her ample breasts was a single gold star. Seven was hypnotized by the object as it danced about in the most beautiful of places. The soreness and pain of his stump never materialized.

Once the leg was secured, she lifted her head and looked directly into his eyes. “Are you ready to stand up?” she asked. Seven nodded in agreement but she could have said anything and he would have obliged. She reached her arms around his body under his arms and began to pull him into a standing position. Seven leaned forward and buried his head into her shoulder. He smelled the sweet scent of her perfume and the aroma of her freshly washed scrubs. In that brief physical encounter Seven acknowledged that he was now in love with the woman he just met minutes prior.
