Chapter 4

A rotating ship propeller stirs the sea like a blender. It awakens the billions of small creatures under her hull. The eruption creates a chemical process called bioluminescence within the living organisms. The creatures ignite a green glow in their bodies that is clearly visible off the stern of a blacked-out ship in the middle of the night. The faint neon salvation caught Seven’s eye and he manipulated Bev’s blades, praying that she could make it to the ship before gravity pulled his bird into the sea. He looked over at his deceased friend and then glanced one final time at the handwritten note still attached to the windshield. “Big Bev will always get you home.”

Big Bev found just enough air under her blades to hold her up long enough to slam violently onto one of the metal cargo containers at the rear of the ship. Seven had removed his harness in anticipation of a water landing. The crash on the ship sent his body forward through the windshield of the craft. His right leg was pinned against the control panel and pilot’s seat. The leg was unable to make the journey through the windshield and remained in place as the rest of Seven Andrews exited the helicopter through the windscreen.
