Chapter 18

“This goes back to our DEA days. I was the chief for this area. I called Bunny in to help me out with a situation. My brother was an agent in Miami with Bunny. The Cordoba Cartel was based here in northern Mexico. My men were making some real progress, hitting their shipments and shutting down their network. They didn’t come after me or my men. They snatched my brother off the streets in Miami and brought him down here. They killed him, burned him alive. The leader of the cartel, Jesus Cordoba, ordered the hit. I called Bunny and he handled the situation for me. The Cordoba Cartel still operates in this area; José Cordoba, Jesus’s brother, runs it now. The cartel wants to get their hands on Bunny. I was worried about him coming down here asking a bunch of questions. If the cartel got word that Bunny was in Mexico, José would do anything to get his hands on him. Hopefully the kid can get us some intel, but I don’t think this was a kidnapping, Seven. We gotta find Bunny and we gotta find him fast.”

“Do you still have contacts down here?” Seven asked.

“Not really, but Bunny has a very influential friend in Colombia who owes him big. I’ve been trying to get word to him since I got here. He’s not an easy man to locate, but I think I should be getting a call back soon.”

Seven had a million questions but bypassed all of them to digest what had been provided to him and focus on the task of finding his friend. He stepped over to the bed and assessed the firepower on the mattress.

In the midst of checking and rechecking the firearms, Colt’s cell phone rang. He looked at the screen, which read that the caller’s identity was unavailable. Colt assumed correctly that this was the call he’d been waiting on. He answered the phone and quickly retreated to the privacy of the bathroom. He remained there for ten minutes, speaking in unintelligible Spanish before returning.

“Alright, we got support from Bunny’s Colombian friend, equipment and intel, but he can’t give us any bodies. It would start a war if some of his men were involved in the mission. So, it’s just us, fellas.
