Chapter 18

Seven had questions, quite a few, but he chose to address them in private. He and Colt stepped away from the helicopter and walked to the tree line.

“I got a few questions, Colt, I just thought it best to talk about them in private,” Seven said.

“I figured you did, go ahead, son,” Colt replied.

“First of all, we got a thirteen-year-old boy tied up in this. What the hell are we gonna do with him? What are the chances that we actually pull this off?”

“Here’s what you need to know about this, Seven, before you take it on. We are about to kill some Mexican citizens in their homeland. If we get caught the cartel will kill us in a painful, prolonged manner. If we somehow get caught by government officials, we’ll go to a Mexican jail, where the cartel will kill us in a painful, prolonged manner. There’s really no difference between the cartels and that government down here. If we get caught, we die. It would be better to be shot and killed in the fight than to be caught. As for the boy, we have to take him back with us. It’s no secret that he’s helping us. He’ll be dead in a week if we leave him here and the saddest part about it is that no one will ever notice he’s gone. Just one more missing street urchin. His life has no value to anyone except us. He got us here and he risked his life to do it. If we get out, he comes with us. My question to you is are you ready for this? I know why me, Mike, and Robert are here. We owe it to Bunny and we know he’d be on that bird if it were one of us, but I need to know before we get in the air, if you’re of the same mindset.”

Seven began walking back to the helicopter without saying a word. Colt walked alongside him, also in silence. Seven ushered him into the bird and motioned for him to assume the copilot’s seat.

“I grew up listening to stories of my grandfather’s service in Vietnam. He flew a bird just like this one. Dropping men in and getting them out of the jungle. It was the most exciting time of his life. I always wanted to do exactly what he did. I had a few exciting times flying in the navy before the crash
