Chapter 17

The following day as Seven and Joey exited their hotel room the boy was waiting in the parking lot. Seven didn’t ask any questions about Joey’s conversation and interaction with the boy after the robbery attempt. He took Joey’s nonchalant attitude after the event to mean that it was just a typical day in Mexico and there was nothing further to discuss. Seven was surprised to see the boy waiting for them at the hotel. He immediately looked over to Joey to witness his assessment of the current situation. Seven feared that perhaps the boy had found them and sought retribution for the slap and dismantling of his pistol. Joey saw the boy, smiled, and began walking in his direction. Seven followed behind.

Joey approached the boy in the same manner that Seven had seen many times. He grabbed him and pulled him in for a hug. The boy was dirty and wearing the same clothing as the previous day. The boy smiled at the sight of the large Italian man in the brilliant blue sweat suit. Joey turned to Seven and introduced his new friend.

“Seven, you remember this guy from yesterday, I assume?”

Seven nodded his head in confused agreement.

“His name is Pablo but he goes by Cabra on the street.”

“Cabra?” Seven replied, using his minor in Spanish to translate the word. “Goat?”

“Yeah, they call him Goat on the street; he’s gonna help us out while we’re here,” Joey said while the young Mexican boy looked on with a smile.

It would have seemed odd to Seven had he not known Joseph DeMarco as he did. The boy known as Goat had pointed a gun at Joey D. and demanded money not more than twelve hours ago. The robbery attempt was countered with violence, a quiet conversation, and a monetary reward and now
