Chapter 15

environment that left him with a severely skewed mind. The thing that separates him from other serial killers is that he was pretty smart. His job as a truck driver kept him moving. Most serial killers start killing in a place they know and are comfortable. That helps the cops to track them down because someone in the community will know them. It’s just a matter of putting the pieces together. Gilbert could breeze into any area unnoticed, completely camouflaged as a truck driver. He could pick his target, kill them, and get out of the area without suspicion. His choice of who he killed and what he did with them also kept him off the radar.

“The four bodies that they found at the scene of the crash were all illegal immigrants. When Illegals go missing, they aren’t reported missing and it’s not unusual for people to just up and leave in the migrant community. They are constantly moving around and getting picked up and deported. No one in those circles reports someone missing. It looks like Gilbert’s MO was to kill and then load the body up in his truck and dispose of it far away from the scene, probably in Mexico. No body, no crime. His routine was pretty much perfect for a serial killer. Truth is, had he not crashed his truck he probably would have been killing for a very long time, and we’ll never know how many he killed before the crash. I just wanted to let you know, Seven, we’re gonna find out plenty about your father, but none of it’s gonna be good.”

“Persona non grata in your family?” was Seven’s only response.

“Yeah, it’s this fuckin thing that happened, I’ll tell you ’bout it later.”
