haven’t been able to kill me yet because I am too smart, too well trained, and they know it. Their only avenue is to keep me in this place until they can finally get the job done. I accept that. I knew that it was a possibility when I first took the job. It’s kinda funny how I did all those things for the government that’s now trying to kill me. One day you’ll know the truth. The truth will come out, but I might be dead before that happens. The things I did were my duty; those people had to die and no one else could do it. I’ve been many things in my life, a truck driver, a mule, a government agent, but I’ve never been a serial killer. I can prove all this to you, but I just need to know that I can trust you. If you are my son, then you’re all that’s left in this world to show that I ever existed. Come back here next week and we’ll see if I can trust you.”

The old man ended this visit as he had with the other two. A little intimidation, a little mystery, and a quick exit. Seven waited until his father was led out of the room to join his escort out of the building. As he completed the transition from prison to plantation by entering the admin building, he noticed Walter standing in the lobby.

“How did it go this time, Seven?” he asked.

“About the same…blah blah blah, they’re trying to kill me. Blah blah blah, I am a secret spy. Blah blah blah,” Seven replied.

“I’ve heard it all before. The worst part about mental illness is that you don’t know you’re ill. The things your father is telling you make perfect sense in his mind, and he believes every word. You know, I’ve been doing this for a long time. It’s easy for me to spot someone who is faking an illness to avoid the justice system. They study the symptoms and develop a performance that checks all the boxes. Some are better than others, but it’s easy to spot. Insanity isn’t something you can fake for a long time. In your father’s mind he was a top secret government agent who killed the enemies of his country. He thinks of himself as a James Bond character.
