Chapter 13

It wasn’t uncomfortable at all, at least not as much as Seven thought it might be. He felt quite at ease in the Taylor house. He had only been in the city of Tampa for a few hours, and he already found himself comfortable sitting at the Taylor dinner table. He still referred to them as Mr. and Mrs. Taylor although they requested that he call them David and Janice. The little voice in the back of his head that sounded a lot like the Colonel reminded him to be a Southern Gentleman when first meeting the parents of the love of his life, so it was Mr. and Mrs. Taylor for now. He quickly established a good connection with Janice. Mothers were pretty easy for Seven. He had met a few during his time in college and he knew exactly what to say and how to act. He was a clean-cut, good-looking young man, polite and courteous. Take that and throw in the disabled veteran routine and he was golden with any mother, anyplace, anytime. He thought that David might be a challenge but nothing he couldn’t handle. As it turns out David seemed even more smitten with Seven than Janice did. It only took a few military helicopter pilot stories to win over the retired medical professional. Seven did indeed feel comfortable in the home and in the company of David and Janice Taylor. It was no hard sell for Tiffany to present her new boyfriend to her parents. They quickly saw him as potential family, just as Gran had for her. There was only one rule imposed by Tiffany prior to the meeting. Seven was not to mention that the following day he was to meet Janice’s brother Joseph. Tiffany did not provide the details as to how her “Uncle Joe” was exiled from the family and Seven felt it was not the right time to inquire.

The dinner was followed by a long discussion in the living room filled with embarrassing stories of young Tiffany as she was growing into the perfect specimen seated next to Seven on the couch. Seven shared the story of how he received his surname and David and Janice joyfully consumed every word. The Taylors would no doubt be searching for wedding venues in the not-so-distant future. Photo albums were brought out and combed through for hours. Seven fulfilled his promise not to in any way mention Joseph and seemed oblivious when Janice pointed and named each family member in her and David’s
